The Goldendoodle is the result of crossing a Golden Retriever with a purebred Poodle. They are highly affectionate crossbreed known for their intelligence and loyalty to their humans. Active and playful, doodles fit in well with families and are great for first-time dog owners. A goldendoodle can have very curly, poodle-like locks or inherit a more wavy mane from their retriever parent. Despite their allergen-friendly fur, doodles have a double coat that consists of a dense undercoat of short hairs beneath a top coat of longer hairs, called guard hairs. Dogs with this type of fur need regular brushing. Both poodles and golden retrievers score in the top five of the 150 smartest dog breeds which makes goldendoodle incredibly trainable. Both Poodles and Golden Retrievers were originally bred for hunting. They were supposed to track down the game they killed in the undergrowth and carry it back to their masters, the hunters. The Goldendoodle has this heritage in his blood. He loves to run after a thrown toy, find it in the bushes and bring it back.
